Gartner positions SCOM as a top APM tool

SCOM surged forward as an application performance management (APM) tool this summer. It received a Customers’ Choice 2018 award from Gartner in the APM category. SCOM shared the honour with AppDynamics, Dynatrace, New Relic and Solarwinds.

I see you thinking – how did this happen? Well, more than 50 reviewers gave SCOM an average rating of 4.2, which means it met Gartner’s criteria to win the award.

What do people say about SCOM?

A System Administrator at a finance company said, “the ability to not only monitor our servers and their availability, but also the services provided by those servers is a major attribute.” Spot on. A SCOM author may use service and health models to build an application model and track its health.

An IT Systems Architect in the retail industry called SCOM, “highly customisable”. Yes, we agree! Management Packs exist for many third-party applications and add instant value. Check out the PowerShell Monitoring Management Pack. It adds support for PowerShell to the SCOM console’s authoring pane.

“Solutions are well documented and there is a large user community to support you as well,” said a System Engineer and Solution Architect in the services industry. We like the SCOM community too. So we created a Community Answers platform for SCOM experts to share solutions.

And our favourite quote. “SCOM Is Very Powerful, But Really Needs SquaredUp To Get The Most Of Out It,” said a SCOM and server specialist in the education sector. Does he allude to our Total SCOM dashboards unlocking his SCOM performance data?

EAM: Map and monitor all your applications

Do you have SCOM? Do you want to monitor all your enterprise applications?

Most APM tools cost a lot, and companies often restrict their use to crown jewel applications. This inspired us to build Enterprise Application Monitoring (EAM). It uses your existing SCOM infrastructure and affordably scales to all your applications.
