January 30, 2020
Earlier this month, we attended the London leg of the popular Microsoft Ignite the Tour conference as a Platinum sponsor.
Every year, Ignite the Tour brings Microsoft’s biggest annual conference, Ignite, to major cities around the world. This January it was London’s turn, and thousands turned up to the free event at ExCeL London, the 100-acre convention centre located in the London Docklands.
The event was just as well-organised as its big brother. Theatre sessions and breakout sessions were structured around learning paths like “Azure fundamentals”, “Migrating server infrastructure”, “Managing cloud operations” and “Developing cloud native applications”, and as always, The Hub was bustling with techies eager to learn about the latest in tools and technologies from Microsoft and their partners.
There was even a games area!
Here are the highlights from some stand-out sessions.
Discovering Microsoft Azure (AFUN10)
This introductory session was fully packed out, with audience members stood at the back and round the sides of the theatre. Clearly, many people are only just entering the Azure world, and eager to get to grips with the massive platform! The session was a comprehensive high-level tour around Azure showcasing its functions and capabilities. You can find slides and additional resources here: aka.ms/AFUN10
Taking your app to the next level with monitoring, performance, and scaling (AAPPS50)
This was another packed-out session. In the words of our Chief Product Officer John Shaw, “It's clear from the full theatre that monitoring is a seriously hot topic right now – this was mirrored in how busy our booth and the booths of APM vendors like Datadog and AppDynamics were.” The demo covered App Insights and various other aspects of Azure Monitor, including the monitoring of Kubernetes and containers. You can find slides and resources here: aka.ms/apps50
Storing Data in Azure (AFUN50)
This session walked us through how to choose a choose a data storage approach and covers Azure Blob Storage, moving to SQL server in the Cloud, and migrating from Mongo DB to Cosmos DB. You can find slides and resources here: aka.ms/APPS20
Mastering Azure Monitor, with 360° application dashboards from SquaredUp (THR20023)
Our CEO and Founder Richard Benwell also did a theatre session where he spoke about how to shape the extensive monitoring capabilities provided by Azure Monitor into a coherent application monitoring strategy. Slides and resources can be found here.
Working on top of Azure Monitor’s Logs, Metrics, Alerts, App Insights etc., SquaredUp helps to pinpoint the resources your application depends on and drill-down to understand the root cause of problems. We even help to integrate other IT operations tools like ServiceNow, and facilitate sharing this monitoring across different teams.
We were really pleased at the turnout – it was a full house and more!
At our booth in The Hub, we were kept busy with demo after demo. We had a great time meeting everyone and demonstrating how you can create these beautiful dashboards that provide full visibility across your apps. Hopefully everyone walked away with a better understanding of how SquaredUp can help solve your monitoring challenges!
We also held a dashboard competition, where the best dashboard submission would win a stunning Star Wars LEGO set. Here it is in all its full glory. The beautiful Millennium Falcon.
Congratulations to Rehan Haque and runners up Marcus Cross and Keith Soul! And a big thank you to everyone who submitted your dashboards 😊
All in all, it was a great Ignite London 2020 for us. We hope you stuffed your brains full of knowledge and learned about all sorts of cool new solutions.
If you didn’t get to go this time or couldn’t make it to London, don’t worry, Ignite the Tour stops by many major cities. We’ll be going to Washington DC, Sydney, Copenhagen, Zurich, Amsterdam, Bangalore, Chicago, Berlin, Stockholm and New Orleans as part of the Tour. Catch us there!
