At SquaredUp, our mission is to inform, enlighten, and empower engineering teams with data so they can deliver awesome digital experiences to their customers.

The world increasingly runs on software. But software is complicated to build and even more complicated to operate. To fully understand these complex software systems, we need lots of data. Collecting and storing that data is already happening – we have data everywhere. Now the challenge is using that data when we need it – for visibility of what's happening, for solving difficult problems, and for inspiring us how to improve.

Our job at SquaredUp is to make that happen. And, while in pursuit of our mission, we aim to benefit the people around us and the planet we share.

Are you looking to join a place like that? Great, because we’re looking for you!

We’re seeking a Developer Advocate who brings their practical hands-on experience in enterprise monitoring and observability to help drive awareness for our new SaaS product – a unified observability portal that gives engineering teams one place to see everything that matters.

Your role will involve directly engaging the community, creating engaging content, and collaborating with a global team of skilled Developer Advocates, Product Managers, Developers, and Marketers.

Although the term “developer” is in the title, you'll engage and empower engineering teams of all kinds – software developers, site reliability engineers, product managers, platform architects, and monitoring teams – to think differently about the approaches they use to monitor their application and leverage data across their business.

This position is remote with a slight preference near one of our hub locations in Boston, MA or Maidenhead, UK. If located near one of these hubs, team members are encouraged to attend occasional in-office team days or other events as they occur.

In this role, you’ll know you’re doing great work when:

  • You’ve mastered the SquaredUp product. You understand what customers love about it, what problems it’s solving for them, and you can use it confidently to support compelling use cases.
  • Your point of view and content is resonating with our community of monitoring leaders, SREs, and engineering leaders
  • You’re confidently and regularly sharing your thoughts and ideas on social channels, to expand their reach

What you’ll do

We are excited to welcome someone from within the monitoring and observability community to join our team and who will share that enthusiasm with a community of like-minded professionals. In this role you will:

  • Develop and articulate SquaredUp’s “point of view” on the unsolved challenges that engineering teams face as they tackle observability initiatives in their transforming enterprise businesses.
  • Develop engaging content (videos, podcasts, blogs, social media posts, etc.) to spread awareness around that point of view to attract and engage like-minded professionals.
  • Develop your online and social media profiles by posting regularly in ways that genuinely and authentically engage a growing online community. SquaredUp’s own social media channels will play a role in boosting your content’s reach.
  • Engage a broader community of like-minded influencers who share and empathize with our point of view, with the goal to broaden the discussion and bolster the community.
  • Speak at conferences to present valuable insights and perspectives
  • Participate in events like industry conferences, trade shows, and customer workshops
  • Use the SquaredUp product first-hand to develop dashboards and use cases relevant to your experience and content.
  • Provide feedback to Product, Engineering, and Product Marketing teams on product features, messaging, and positioning.
  • Share technical insights and inspire others to effectively use SquaredUp’s observability portal – whether for end-to-end enterprise visibility or for more tactical use cases such as CI/CD monitoring, tracking developer metrics, or monitoring cloud costs.
  • Engage with prospects and customers directly (e.g., at events or on one-to-one technical Sales calls). Share your perspectives with the customers, hear their challenges, and recommend solutions, in collaboration with Technical Account Managers.

About you

You’ve been in the trenches executing monitoring and observability within an enterprise to help IT and engineering teams deliver services and applications. You’ve worked with a broad variety of monitoring tools: IT monitoring tools like SCOM, VMWare, Nagios, and SolarWinds … application monitoring tools like Dynatrace, New Relic, and AppDynamics, … container monitoring for Kubernetes with Prometheus and Grafana. You’ve overseen infrastructure in apps running on-prem and migrating to cloud platforms like AWS and Azure. You probably know some PowerShell scripting or query languages like KQL, SQL, or PromQL.

Now you’re ready to apply your hands-on experience to a new career domain – to educate a community of monitoring and observability leaders like yourself with strategies and technologies for solving problems, including solutions like SquaredUp. At the foundation of your passion and expertise is a love to enable others.

You are:

  • Experienced with monitoring infrastructure and applications including those deployed in the cloud (e.g., AWS and Azure)
  • Prolific or aspiring author of content (blogs, white papers, etc.) with expectation of high output.
  • Active on social media, and willing to post thoughts, ideas, and anecdotes regularly
  • An excellent communicator in public settings (e.g., internal company briefings, webinars, podcasts, videos, etc.)
  • Experienced with scripting languages like PowerShell and Javascript and/or query languages like SQL or KQL
  • Someone who enjoys presenting at events and/or via YouTube, Webinars, or Live Streams
  • Available for travel to support events (less than 20%)

Who you’ll work with

Here are some of the folks you’ll regularly work with:

  • Founder & Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Richard Benwell
  • VP, Product & Marketing, Jason Baudreau
  • Product Managers: Dave, Vincent, Bruce
  • Marketing team members: Hayley, Steve, Lydia

SquaredUp is an equal opportunities employer. You're welcome here whatever your socio-economic background, race, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, religious belief, age or disability.
