SquaredUp
for Good

Beyond profit, we are driven by creating a positive impact on our employees, our industry, the environment, and our local community.

Our community vision

Passion, integrity, and togetherness aren't just our values in the workplace.

We seek to maximize the social impact we have by leveraging the skills, knowledge, passions, and backgrounds of all of our employees.

Our areas of focus:

  • Using technology to support charitable work
  • Environmental sustainability
  • Underrepresentation in Tech

Time well spent

Every employee gets three days of paid leave to volunteer for a charity of their choice. We share ideas and opportunities for volunteering on Slack and proactively help teams make them happen.

A Good Thing – sending less to landfill and more to a good cause.

We have an active partnership with A Good Thing, a not-for-profit "matchmaking app" created by our CEO Richard Benwell and Director Cathy Benwell. They were driven by a simple idea: Businesses are generating too much waste, while charities are in need of more resources. Technology can connect the two.

Using the app, businesses are able to easily donate surplus items directly to charities. This saves the charities money and prevents tonnes of waste going to landfill!

Via A Good Thing, our contributions of laptops, sit/stand desk, shelving, IT cabinets, and more have gone to the following charities:

Charitable giving

We donate a minimum of £30,000 per annum to fund A Good Thing's efforts at leveraging technology for good. On top of that, we match employees' personal donations and fundraising efforts by the team, up to £3,000 per employee each year.

We have also raised funds at our annual SCOMathon event for various charities over the years – including Doctors Without Borders and the British Red Cross Ukraine Fund.

Technology is for everyone

As a tech company, we are committed to nurturing an inclusive workplace that celebrates equality and diversity. We work to reflect that in our philanthropic efforts.

This year we raised $5,000 for Girls Who Code, an international non-profit organization working to close the gender gap in technology by teaching girls computer science.

We also like to champion local community initiatives. We frequently share our HQ offices in Maidenhead, UK with local interest groups – such as the monthly board games meet-up, and the AWS Thames Valley and Atlassian Maidenhead user groups.

If you'd like to use this space for a community initiative, please contact [email protected].
