Introduction: Sameer's SQUP learning path

Sameer Mhaisekar

Developer Advocate, SquaredUp

Hello again, folks! It sure has been a while. For those of you who know me, you may remember I used to work at SquaredUp as a tech evangelist until a couple of years ago. Then some things happened, and I left in pursuit of something else. However, life has come full circle after about 2 years and boy am I glad to be back!

I won’t bore you guys with the details of what happened, how it happened and such, but what this long “sabbatical” (as one of my colleagues called it 😅) has done is that it has put me in a unique position where I am still a “newbie”, but also not really. When I left, SquaredUp’s cloud product was in incubation and in very, very early-stage development – to the point there was hardly any GUI and most things needed workarounds involving the back-end code. Rejoining the team after 2 years, I was both surprised and proud of what the product looks like today. It sure has come a long way with many fancy features and GUI improvements, and the work, time, and innovation the team’s been putting in it is very obvious.

A lot of you seemed to like the Azure Monitor Learning Path Series I wrote a few years ago, so I thought, why not do the same again? Looking objectively at the product as an “outsider”, let’s see if SquaredUp manages to impress us.

I invite you to explore SquaredUp Cloud with me, and join me on this journey to see what it is capable of. 🤗

As a teaser for the unfamiliar, SquaredUp Cloud is a data viz tool that allows you to dashboard pretty much anything. It also has features that let you combine and analyze data across tools. But I won't give away anymore – we'll save it for the learning path. 😉

Let me assure you that this series is not going to be an advertisement of the product in disguise – as is often the case, SquaredUp has given me the complete freedom to share my thoughts with you as they are, be it praise or criticism. So trust me, this will be a genuine tour of the product!

Having said that, there are a couple of things to clarify. I have been using the product for about a month now and so I’m not at complete zero anymore – although in no way am I a pro either. I will try to give insight into how I believe certain features should be used, rather than walking through a total beginner’s click around of the product. I believe this is for the better as it will promote the ideal way of using the product.

The second thing to keep in mind is that this is a SaaS product, and I know for sure how hard the team is working on it in the background. So don’t be surprised if there are visual changes / feature additions, etc. between blog posts. I can assure you the changes will always be for the better!

That’s enough chit chat, let’s get our hands dirty!
