Managed Cloud Governance dashboard by Evidi

Evidi are a managed services provider specializing in Microsoft stack. Andre is the head of Evidi’s Managed Cloud Cost Monitoring & Optimization service, and he uses SquaredUp dashboards to help customers slash cloud expenses and maximize efficiency.

Dashboard overview

We created this dashboard to be focussed around governance and compliance, with the goal of enhancing cloud security and operational hygiene. The dashboard identifies orphaned resources, highlights Defender for Cloud recommendations, and categorizes high-priority issues. In addressing these issues, a huge side benefit is we get to cut costs!

How we use the dashboard

Azure recommendations in one place

It is handy having one place to go for Defender for Cloud recommendations and Azure Advisor recommendations.

Cut costs on orphaned resources

More critically though, this dashboard displays orphaned resources – resources that are currently unmanaged and unused. From a governance point of view, just the fact that these resources are no longer managed poses a security risk. There may not be an owner or anyone responsible.

From my team’s point of view, these resources are not being used but continuing to rack up costs. This is a common occurrence when a service or resource gets taken down or things are simply forgotten about.

Having this dashboard prevents that as we can immediately identify the orphaned resources and start there to cut costs. It’s helped us save thousands! Spiralling cloud costs is a common problem and streamlining cloud governance is a big part of the solution.

Alerts

It’s been great for our cost management to have an alert set up on orphaned resources. It allows us to nip things in the bud before costs start spiralling without our knowledge.

Sharing with customers

The dashboard is shared with our customers as well to give them full visibility over the state of their cloud governance. We share via a read-only link that doesn't require additional costs in SquaredUp.
